In 2015, the first of the 660cc Kei cars will be legal. Depending on when they actually went on sale, you could import one of these.

As much as I want the Cappuccino, having a Beat with a 4-banger SI motor would be epic.

It would be so awesome to get a Cappuccino.

Those started production in '93 or '94, though. Still a few more years (to save).

Yikes! Being from canada I tend to forget how old 25 years actually is.

I've seen a few Cappuccinos and beats around and a few Suzuki Altos but it seem the JDM imports have really slowed down in recent years. in 2006-2007 JDM imports were all over the place in Edmonton. Now you rarely see any JDM's

So all in about how much would it cost to have a Copen or Cappuccino at my door?

If the cost wouldn't be insane, I'd consider it. It'd be awesome to have a kei car.

I was looking at Nostalgia Import's site and it looks like AE86s, Supras (3rd gen), etc can be had for less than $10k, all inclusive, so I'd assume around there. Stepping up to a GTR is in the $20k ballpark however.

We should all start ordering kei cars. Importers would lose their fucking minds

"WHY ARE ALL THESE PEOPLE BUYING SHITTY 660CC CARS?!"

I would too. Forget the Miata, I would hoon the piss out of a Kei roadster. Can you imagine how awesome it would be to roll up to an autocross in one of these?!

I want one. BRB gonna start researching importing kei cars

I know someone who's working on the paperwork right now supposedly for a GTR. He said importing it himself, and keeping quiet in general about it, the cost is below $16k including import fees. He also said it gives greater flexibility about the condition of the car. Depending on the level of work you want to do to it, can work out in your favor.

I only say supposedly because I haven't seen it yet. When I see it, I'll believe it.

I hear the condition of most of the R32s being lined up for auction is not great. I also hear the Japanese dealers are picking and choosing which cars go to the US, preferring to send the more beat examples since we're more or less desperate. A car that complex and that obscure, I'd rather pay a lot more for a hand-picked car than take the luck of the draw at the auctions. Just me. As if I have $20k+ to spend on a 25 year old Nissan!

What I do know is that the car my friend is importing is a non-turbo, simply because they're less desirable, and by the time you import it here, few people care about numbers matching on a Nissan anyway.

He's also importing a car with no drivetrain whatsoever, just the body and interior. Helps keep the cost down because he wouldn't be using it anyway (since the turbos are so much more expensive). But it's all heresay until I see the car. He does have a Focus ST and a Pontiac GTA. His brother has or had a Fiero or two that were pretty beat if I remember correctly.

I trust them, but I'm not crazy about the older GTRs, and he just plans to sell it once it's finished anyway.
